After the initial email from Will, we very quickly decided to buy a car I'd spotted on eBay.

A 1979 MKI Ford Fiesta seemed to fit the bill in terms of engine size (less than 1 litre rule) and crapness.

We bought the car unseen (apart from the crappy eBay photo) for £139, and went down the next weekend to collect it from Poole, Dorset. It turned out to be in fairly reasonable condition, with everything appearing to work just fine - apart from the fuel gauge ...
